Charta was founded in 2021 as a project dedicated to the photobook, supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture.

In its first two editions, it took the form of a festival, presenting a selection of one hundred books exploring a shared theme, accompanied by talks, presentations, portfolio reviews, workshops, and a program of installations and multidisciplinary interventions.

Across its editions, it has involved publishers, institutions, and international platforms such as MACK, VOID, Skinnerboox, Witty Books, Overlapse, Materia, Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, Hong Kong Photo Book Festival, Circulation(s), Le Départ pour l’Image, among others.

Today, the project continues through the Charta Award, which each year identifies and gives visibility to some of the most interesting unpublished projects within the contemporary scene, activating collaborations and opportunities for the authors.

Each year, one project is produced as a book by Yogurt Editions.
